Rate Check. Updated 20th April 2003

The true mutual building societies have proven beyond doubt that they are the best place for savings and mortgages.

We hope to offer the latest rates from mutual societies and hope you will compare them with those you receive from your current financial institution. These are not personal recommendations, but information on what is currently available to customers wishing to save or lend from a mutual building society. Please check with each society that the product is still available, and terms & conditions of the product. It is your responsibility to decide if the investment or mortgage is the most suitable for your circumstances.

If in doubt, seek independent financial advice. Free assistance in obtaining contact numbers of local advisers can be obtained by dialing 08000 131 132 and quoting 'SOBS website'.

Investments.

Many (but not all) mutual societies are keen to foster a longer term relationship with customers and members by offering enhanced savings rates in return for that commitment. There are many excellent rates on offer from regular saving schemes, affinity accounts, ISA accounts, children's accounts, loyalty products and term bonds.

Regular Saving Products:

Some smaller societies refuse to allow non-locals to open accounts due to persistent & disruptive action from carpetbaggers. This has led to a restriction in availability of some excellent investment products. However, local residents can apply to open accounts which are identified by the code R.
